The Haute-Normandie (Upper Normandy) region of northern France consists of only the Departments of Eure and Seine-Maritime thus making this a very compact region to visit.

Although Normandy is synonymous with D-Day, in fact those are in Lower Normandy and Upper Normandy tends to be that little bit less touristy than its southern cousin.

Within its bounds you'll find the port of Le Havre thus there is a constant flow of tourists from the UK through the region and consequently accommodation is plentiful. Don't let that fool you into thinking you'll have lots of places at your disposal though as they fill up very fast in this area.

The principal attractions of the region are the delightful town of Rouen (the capital) and Monet's village of Giverny.

Amongst the collection of Les Plus Beaux Villages in this region are Dieppe, Étretat, Lyons-la-Forêt and Vernon.

Although the region is popular it's not particularly well served by airports as most people arrive by way of the ferry, the easiest being Le Havre though Calais and Cherbourg aren't far away.

The rail network is extensive and very practical given the compact nature of the region. You can get the Eurostar from London to Lille and change there.

Despite the fame that he brought to the village, it remains small and the attractions are those that surround his former home. The gardens of this house will be familiar to you through having seen them...
